Infomarkers Eindhoven Design District

Eindhoven is the city of technology, knowledge, and design. While design becomes most evident during Dutch Design Week, it isn’t confined to studios—design is everywhere, including public spaces. A striking "family" of information markers now makes design in Eindhoven even more visible and accessible year-round. Come see for yourself!

Heritage manhole covers

Since 2024, downtown Eindhoven has unique manhole covers. Designed by Atelier van Asseldonk, these covers subtly reference the city’s post-war architecture. They tell the story of Eindhoven’s heritage, which may not be widely known. The design invites residents and visitors alike to see the city around them from a new perspective.

Pretty Plastic

In 2016, the startup Pretty Plastic introduced its first plastic facade tile during Dutch Design Week. What began as a response to the overwhelming amount of plastic waste can now be seen on building facades across Europe and even on the French island of Mayotte. Today, Pretty Plastic produces these tiles using second-hand PVC, a notoriously difficult material to recycle. These innovative tiles can now be admired on the facade of the newly renovated Tongelreep swimming complex in Eindhoven, where more than 30,000 Pretty Plastic tiles were installed.

In de volle grond

Eindhoven is full. And that applies not only above ground but also below. Beneath the city lies a tangled web of cables, pipes, parking garages, and underground containers. It’s so packed that there’s hardly any space left. An interactive exhibition during Dutch Design Week 2022 raised awareness of this issue among interested visitors, residents, and professionals working underground. In-depth workshops provided the latter group with a sense of responsibility and concrete solution directions.
